index_01aSwaki states: “Early this year, Swaki launched a sculpture competition as part of its philanthropy mission to support and promote the Kingdom’s development of the arts. The winning sculpture design is to be potentially rendered and mounted at the entrance of the Swaki headoffice. The competition was open to the public, young and old, artist or non-artist, to come up with sculptural designs that would reflect any aspect that showcases the very best of our beloved Kingdom and her people.

The Nation’s response was astounding with close to 100 entries, varying from physical sculpture models, sketches, architectural drawings and multimedia presentations. All entrants showed great imagination, creativity and artistic flair proving that the potential for growth in the arts is unlimited. After a lengthy meticulous judging process, the Directors of Swaki were proud to announce the top 10 finalists, with Mbongeni Fakudze winning the first prize of E75 000 with his ingenious design entitled “The Harvester” depicting truly Swazi roots. Swaki would like to thank all entrants for participating and to Yebo Gallery for showcasing the finalists’ pieces. Swaki hopes that many more companies will appeal to local artists for decoration of their offices or other developments, and in so doing promote our local talent.
