An artist, curator and graphic designer! – Aleta Armstrong

Aleta Armstrong – An artist, curator and graphic designer!

I was born in Finland and grew up in Tanzania, Malta, Swaziland, Botswana and Denmark. Moved to Eswatini in 1984 and been involved in creative businesses since then. Since 2010 I’ve been involved with Yebo Art and Design which I set up with Pete and Dane, we wanted to have a business that would uplift the creative economy of our country. Being surrounded by amazing artists and curating so many thought provoking exhibitions in the last eight years has been a very inspiring experience!

I’m very lucky in that my workdays are creative and interesting with a fantastic team of people who are passionate about their work.

When I paint it’s an expression of my many moods and thoughts, I can be inspired by the beauty in my backyard, my dreams, poems or books I read….When I feel angry or depressed at situations then that energy also gets channelled into a painting. Its always great to be part of exhibitions or having somebody buy your work but even if that was not the case I would still paint! Time alone in my studio is when I can be free and create exactly what I want with no thought of what happens next.

Aleta’s work can be found at www.yeboswaziland.com or viewed at Yebo Art Gallery in Ezulwini. Yebo also has a library for artists, offers free advice for up and coming artists and has art materials.
