11/3/12 – Yebo Artist Meeting & Birthday Bash

Yebo recently organised a successful general meeting for all local artists to discuss relevant issues and catch up on news. The Swaziland Revenue Authority (SRA) were very helpful and sent a team to talk about the new and impending Value Added Tax (VAT) and other tax issues relevant for the art gallery and for artists. This was a very informative session and the artists had an opportunity to ask questions and understand how this would impact on their work. The artists have requested a workshop on budgeting and business management which Yebo will set up for them soon.

Yebo is also proud to announce that it is now 1 year old! A big thank you to all the 50 artists who had exhibited so far and been part of this exciting creative venture. Exhibitions have been lined up now till 2013 and artists are extremely busy preparing for them all. The spirit of cooperation between the artists has been an important factor in the dramatic growth in the Swazi contemporary art scene. Recent articles in the South African media has also been very helpful. There has also been a growing interest from local businesses to invest in local artists work.

Yebo’s website features all the exhibitions and artists work, over with over 4,000 hits so far from around the world.

Yebo is currently setting up an ArtReach NGO, that will focus on teaching art in youth centres in rural areas, local artists will be paid to teach their skills to the youth. The pilot project will be with the Siteki School for the Deaf. Full details on this will be released in April!
