Thabo Sibeko – A self-taught artist obsessed with drawing

“I was born in 1984 and went to school in Vosloorus in South Africa where my parents were working. When they lost their jobs we moved back to Swaziland. Later on we moved back to South Africa where I went to high school and did my matric. I did art as a subject then and wanted to continue with drawing as it is something I’m passionate about. I came back to Swaziland in 2003 and sadly my parents and brother passed away. There was a time of difficulty and I was admitted to Manzini Psychiatric Centre. I have continued drawing and painting and been part of many exhibitions and many people have helped me along the way. I have learned to cope with the hardships of life as art is my therapy, I am always drawing…anything that I see!  It is hard to earn a living solely as an artist because I don’t have another job and art materials are expensive. But when I do sell a work it is wonderful because I can pay some bills and continue being an artist which is all I want to be.”
