PEPFAR and Yebo! Art Gallery have joined together with 22 local artists for an exhibition called "Indzaba Yetfu" (Our Story).
PEPFAR stands for the ‘U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief’ and is the HIV/AIDS program in Swaziland managed through the US Embassy. PEPFAR/Swaziland works with more than 30 partner organizations across the Kingdom to prevent new infections, mitigate the effect of the epidemic, and provide care and treatment for those infected with HIV/AIDS.
The goal of the Indzaba Yetfu art exhibition is to explore new mediums of communication and creativity in order to increase HIV/AIDS awareness in Swaziland. The partner organizations have met with local artists in Swaziland to view their projects. These visits inspired the artists to create special work for this exhibition in order to assist with the fight against AIDS. The exhibition at Yebo Art Gallery in Ezulwini will be open to the public for a month. PEPFAR and the artists hope that visitors to the exhibition will be both inspired and educated.
The artists are working on their individual pieces of art in the mediums of painting, pottery, drawing, sewing, sculpture, photography and glass. Each piece will present the artist’s unique impression of how HIV/AIDS is affecting the country and of the work being done to combat the disease.
