Bonisile Blacknote Nxumalo

Blacknote is a multi-disciplinary artist, poet and educator with a flair for illuminating emotions.
Originally from Manzini, Eswatini, she studied drama at TUT in South Africa and it was during her studies that she realized her love for performance poetry. After graduating she came back to Eswatini and began her journey as a performance poet and drama teacher.
She has published two poetry books and one full spoken word album. She has taught speech and drama in Eswatini since 2007 to present, and continues to write poetry with the hope that she can release another album before she turns 40.

‘River in my soul’ is the poet’s first book. In it she exposes culture and images of growing up in Swaziland. She describes her encounters with anger, love, God, loss, dreams and peace. Her poetry is satiric and takes the reader through a journey of self discovery; doubt self worth in a changing society and acceptance. She writes simple and easy to read poetry that takes a long story and turns it into a rhythmic piece of information. Matters of the heart are also tackled through her poetry.
